Summer Update

We are very busy barreling toward the next release of erasmus, but there are some interim developments we'd love to share with you.

Web Site

Our web site has gone through an overhaul to make it more pleasing in appearance and easier to navigate.  We are constantly making minor updates to improve it.

One of the newly added features of the site is a series of short articles about studying the Bible.  These introduce the subject to those who are new to study or to the faith.  They are written to be useful regardless of which Bible software you use - or even if you don't use any software at all.  They include topics such as how studying the Bible differs from merely reading it, and why study is important.  In addition, we have various things you can print and hand out if you are leading a group study.  The articles and print-outs are available by clicking Bible Study under the Resources menu at the top of the web pages.  Or you can use this link to go directly to these resources: https://erasmusbibleapp.com/study.php

Another new feature of the site is the ability to suggest new reference works for us to pursue.  You must have a free account and be signed in to use this feature.  You can vote for any works already suggested or add your own favorite works that you would like to see available for the erasmus Bible app.

Heads-up for IOS Users

Since the IOS version is only available through the Apple App store, there are some changes to the store that you need to be aware of.  As of last April 28, only apps supporting iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 can be added to the store, and older versions of apps will not be available once the new version is put on the store.  That means that the next erasmus release will not work for older devices that do not support that IOS 26.  This applies to most Apple devices that are more than two years old.  Therefore, if you have an older device and have not yet downloaded erasmus, you should do so immediately.  The updated version of erasmus will be placed on the App store later this year and, after that, the version supporting older versions of IOS will no longer be available.  We are unable to provide the app apart from the App store.  If you have friends or family that have older devices, encourage them to get the current version of erasmus before it is too late!

Building Your Own Theological Library

Did you know that the Ultimate Library provided for erasmus contains dozens of reference works, which would cost you over $900 if you purchased the cheapest new copies available on Amazon.com?  Unlike most other electronic libraries that are available online or through other apps, the works in all of our libraries contain the entire work, including appendices and fore-matter.  The introductions in many works are educational and can equip you both in ministry and in your own faith.  As just two examples, the introduction to the Text-Critical English New Testament (TCENT) will introduce you to the subject of Biblical manuscripts, and the introduction to Adam Clarke's Commentary will introduce you to various saints and scholars of the past whose insights still inform us today.  Whether it is a brief biography, a description of a how a Bible version came to be, or an overview of hermeneutical principles, the prefatory material in a theological library provides a wealth of context that can aid you in your understanding of the Scripture.  erasmus provides you with a treasure trove of works that are both respected and complete.

Partner Ministry Focus

Biblica is the non-profit organization that has the care of the New International Version (NIV) Bible.  In 1968, Biblica (then the New York Bible Society) became the NIV’s financial sponsor, mortgaging its office space in Manhattan and New Jersey so that the NIV would become reality.

The initial print run of over a million copies of the full NIV Bible sold out before they were even done printing.  The translators’ work didn’t end when the NIV was published in 1978. The original mandate, given in 1965, was to continue the work of Bible translation, ensuring that the NIV always reflects the very best of biblical scholarship and contemporary English.
